"I don't know, I don't know what tomorrow may hold but I know, but I know that you're holding it all. So no matter what may come, I'm gonna fix my eyes on all that you are 'til every doubt I have deep in my heart grows strangely dim."
These are lyrics to one of my favorite songs by Francesca Battistelli titled "Strangely Dim." Every time I listen to it I do it in order to remind myself that there is no need to have any fear in my heart. Nonetheless, paralyzing fear overwhelms me from time to time-- it might be the same for you. As sinful individuals we tend to forget the great things that God has done for us in the past, yet He is always there to remind us that He holds everything in His hands.
Whether you're a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior-- faculty or staff member-- or whoever you may be, remember that the Lord is a God of opportunities. On this day, choose to forget your past; it no longer matters. Instead, look forward without fear and be excited for the present and the future. As the new school year begins I want to challenge you to overcome any fear that you might have and welcome new beginnings. Most importantly, remember your Father's promise: "Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for The Lord will do great things." (Joel 2:21)
